Sustainability: Design for a Better World

by McEvoy Ranch on McEvoy Ranch - Monday, February 06, 2012

We just returned from the New York International Gift Fair

and are proud to announce some exciting recognition that our 80 Acres Body Care received by the show's Sustainability: Design for a Better World initiative.

Beginning in 2008, the NYIGF started curating a special exhibit and educational series showcasing the gift industry's best eco-friendly products and business practices. In order to be included, products must meet the following criteria:

      • "Green" Products: products that are manufactured or constructed with only recycled, recycleable and/or sustainable materials
      • Environmentally-Friendly Production Practices: manufacturers who are using renewable or alternative sources of energy in production, including wind, sun and alternative fuels
      • Socially Responsible Business Practices
      • Meet NYIGF's "zero tolerance" policy for toxic products: VOC; Lead: PVC, without recommendation for use and disposal, and unless repurposed; and Aniline dyes, formaldehyde, chlorine (for textiles)

This year we submitted two products from our Lavender and Blood Orange collections and both were showcased in the Sustainability: Design for a Better World display: our newly-released Muslin Gift Sets and our popular Body Balm.

Our entire 80 Acres Body Care collection is made locally in small batches using USDA-certified organic olive oil and a rich variety of botanically sourced ingredients. We use recycled packaging as much as possible and operate a wind turbine at our olive ranch which is designed to meet 100% of our energy needs. All of our products are paraben, pthalate and sulfate-free and never tested on animals.

      Well done, 80 Acres!

Merchants and Marketplace restaurants will offer seasonal hors d'oeuvres to pair with delicious wines from Napa Valley Vinters and shops will be open until 8pm for you to find the perfect token for that special someone.

We've got some special tastes in store featuring our extra virgin olive oil: one savory with organic, edible flowers from our gardens and one sweet pairing with dark chocolate and a touch of sea salt.

      Purchasing Olive Trees

by McEvoy Ranch on McEvoy Ranch - Friday, February 03, 2012

Our extra virgin olive oil is comprised of six Italian olives each grown for its part in our carefully blended annual release, the Traditional blend. Each varietal plays a role in our disctinct Tuscan-style oil; Frantoio and Leccino comprise 85% of the the blend, giving the oil its green fruit notes and pungent characteristics, while the Maurino, Pendolino, Leccio del Corno and Coratina give the oil balance and depth.

In addition to these six varietals, our Nursery team grows over 40 other olive cultivars at the ranch, all grown specifically to yield superior olive oil and table olives. Our trees are well-suited to large-scale orchard plantings or singly-placed landscape focal trees, and they're available wholesale directly from the ranch with a $1000 minimum tree purchase, in our San Francisco Ferry Building shop or throughout the Bay Area through our retailer partners listed below:

Bay Flora - 1563 Solano Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94707
